If you are feeling a pinch by the rising prices of your groceries, we’ve collated a few fail-proof ways that you can try to cut your food bill in half and save you that extra pound this month.
Check what food you already have
We often forget what we have stored in our fridge when we are at the supermarket - which often leads us to buy some of the things we may already have.
Before heading to the supermarket, take note of the ingredients that you already have and try to plan your meals around those. This way, no food goes to waste and you can save money by only buying what you actually need.
Meal planning
Meal planning seems like a trendy thing to do but a lot of people have proven that it works so well in cutting down costs - and saving time. When you start the week by planning your meals in advance, you can avoid impulse buying and only buy ingredients that you need.
Unleash your creativity by planning a number of different meals by using the same ingredients. This way, you can have a variety of meals throughout the week.
Switch to ‘own-brands’
Opting for supermarkets’ own-brand products can help significantly in cutting down your food bill. A lot of the time, the quality of branded products in comparison to own-brand products is just the same but for a fraction of the price. This can have a huge impact on driving down the cost of your weekly shop. Branded vs own-brand does not necessarily mean it's tastier.
Utilise your freezer
Take note of the ‘use-by’ dates of the ingredients in your fridge. If it’s getting close to the ‘use-by’ date and you think you’re not going to use them in time, freeze them.
You can also opt for frozen products instead of fresh ones as well. Frozen products are frozen at the peak of their freshness. You could then reduce the cost of your meals as frozen products are often cheaper - and they don’t go out too quickly.
